,,World Environment Day, marked on 5 June, is a call to protect our environment and take urgent action to #BeatPlasticPollution.
Plastic, from production to waste, contributes to climate crisis and environmental degradation. It contaminates soil, blocks water sources, and harms ecosystems. These impacts are pushing people to move in search of safer, more sustainable living conditions.
In 2024, disasters triggered nearly 46 million new internal displacements. Without urgent action, climate and environmental risks will continue to force millions to move.
Tackling plastic pollution must be part of the solution. Migrants and diasporas are key actors in addressing environmental challenges. They bring vital skills, knowledge, and resources that support green solutions and build resilient communities.
IOM is committed to continue bringing sustainable solutions to displacement and reducing its environmental impact, while empowering those most affected by climate challenges. We call on all actors to take bold, coordinated steps to beat plastic pollution, support those on the move, and build a healthier planet for all. ”

,,Join our global Community of Changemakers
We are a global community of Changemakers working to transform the way we make, use, and throw away Stuff so that it is better for people and the planet. In just the last year, here are some of the victories we’ve achieved together:
- Created new movies to educate the public about microfibers and the risks of water privatization
- Successfully challenged Nestlé’s claimed water right in the San Bernardino National Forest
- Pressured toymaker Mattel to pull the plug on their planned „digital nanny” device that put profit ahead of kids’ privacy and safety
- Supported a network of activists that is working to hold Nestlé accountable in communities across North America
In the year ahead, we’re continuing to defend clean, safe public water; fight plastic pollution; and tell the stories of Changemakers around the globe. Won’t you be part of our movement for a just and sustainable future?”
